Goodnight, Irene

Dear Friends,

I am happy, and grateful, to report that we were relatively unaffected by Hurricane Irene, though many friends and family were not so lucky.  Certain areas nearby were without power for hours, and my brother and his family were unreachable by telephone till today.

My prayers and good wishes go out to those who experienced damage or worse.

This evening, I took a walk to one of my favorite neighborhood spots.  The creek leads to a local swimming hole, through a tunnel under a highway--but I wouldn't want to have to walk through the tunnel, or even take a swim at this point.

Here's a link to a photo I took in October 2009.  This is usually what the creek looks like.

I tried to capture the same view today, plus I took a few more shots of the rushing water. You can see it's a bit higher than usual--as well as rougher!

Another angle.
And another.
I also saw some late-summer zinnias...

...and this old, weather-worn chair with vines...I thought I would try a special effect in Photoshop Elements. Do you like it?

Speaking of vines, I found this one, already turning red for the fall.  The nights have gotten much cooler.  I am looking forward to my favorite season.

What is your favorite season?  What do you enjoy most about it?

Until next time, stay well, my friends.

  1. These are so beautiful! I'm glad you went out and took a walk. Sweet one, good times are coming. Have faith. I went through some times where things seemed so bad and now things are really good. It always turns around.

  3. Thank you both! I'm glad you came to visit. It means a lot to me. I am also kind of shy about my photography, so compliments are much appreciated!

    I am keeping my chin up! :)

  4. I am counting down the days until fall. There's something about it that makes me authentically happy, and it's like nothing else I feel all year. And I don't remember exactly what it feels like until it happens again. The other day I was sitting outside after I finished swimming and I realized the *light* was changing into "fall light" and I got "the" felling for a brief moment. It's so strange, yet I wait for it all year!

    ...yes, yes, yes I like!
    thanks for taking me along
    for your walk with you;
    gives my hope a bouncy lift
    about cooler times, too.
    Fall is my favorite and I feel
    it singing sweetly in the evening light;
    hope it's not too shy this year.
    So grateful that you ARE, friend:)

  6. Chel, I have been noticing the birds no longer start their songs at 4 a.m. I kind of miss that. I just realized it the other day!

    Jen, Thanks so much! If you want to see some more photos of my neighborhood, they are on my flickr site. You may have to go poking about in the various sets, though. There are a few in Flora and Fauna, and in Miscellaneous. XOXO

  7. I really like what you did with the photo of the chair, Sandra. It creates intrigue . . .
    My favorite season? Always has been spring, even here in Florida. A lot of people don't realize there really is a winter here in Florida with much colder temperatures and dormancy of many plants. I love the rebirth of spring!
    p.s. I updated my latest blog post (with a link to you) to reflect your question and another one, I added them right to the end of the post! Thanks for asking -I am sure others wondered too ; ^ ) lenna

  8. I think you should combine your art talents into an occupation! Sell your photos & teach your art! What could be a better job than that? Maybe that's what God has been telling you all along!

  9. Lenna, Thank you for both replying to my question and for mentioning me in your blog!
    I like spring, too--we got married in spring. But there is something about fall, too--maybe the anticipation of the holidays? (and the lack of hot weather, tee hee)

    Jean, I'm trying...I don't know what is holding me back. I vowed at least a year ago to get my Etsy shop up and running. I need to think of that quote, "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?" Thanks for your encouragement!
